SURVIVAL GUIDE

'07-'08 Raider Brigade Membership Application

PHILOSOPHY

The Toms River High School East Raider band program is pupil-orient_. The Band provides an environment where musical and marching abilities are cultivated.

We recognize that student rights are essential; however, we put 'great emphasis upon a student's maturity, self-discipline, and level of responsibility.

Because the band is a dynamic organization, the directors, drum majors, and front captains will continually reexamine the objectives of the band to meet, its needs.

OBJECTIVES

 I.    To provide students with an opportunity to exhibit music, marching,
and routine skills, and to strive for excellence in all we do.

II.   To develop a sound character and well adjusted personality.

         A. Develop good work habits and pride in one's work.
         B. Gain knowledge of and respect for one's abilities and limitations.
         C. Learn fundamentals of getting along with people.
         D. Learn meaning of the chain of command, and where an individual
            appears in the chain.

PURPOSE

        I.  To provide a wholesome activity for students of our high school.
II.  To enhance school spirit through performing at football games and pep rallies.
III.  To represent school district in various local functions.
IV.  To represent our school in regional marching and concert band competitions.

MARCHING RAIDER AWARD POLICY

So that there will be no misunderstanding at the end of the year, I ask you to read this award policy very carefully. Both the student and a parent/guardian must sign the bottom of the page and return it to me immediately. People not returning contracts will not receive credit toward their award.

 ATTENDANCE POLICY

Public Performance: Excused

A student is allowed two (2) excused absences during the course of the school year. An excused absence is one of a personal nature* where the director has been notified 7 days in advance, in writing, by the parents, that the student will be absent.

In case of emergency, a phone call as soon as possible would be appreciated. A parental note is needed the first day the student returns to school.

 Exceptions to this policy are:

Serious illness (doctor's note required)
Death in family
Board of Education recognized religious holiday

 Public performance: unexcused

A student will receive an unexcused absence if the conditions of the above are not met
No note 7 days in advance
No phone call or note in case of emergency

More than two (2) excused, or one (1) unexcused absence will void the student’s award for the year.
